Paint A Cleaner Environment

While beautifying your home with paint, take care to keep the environment beautiful by properly using, storing and reusing your paint. Here are some helpful tips:

  1. Buy only the paint you need so there's less chance of having any left over.

  2. Store paint so it lasts for years by covering the opening with plastic wrap, making sure the lid fits securely so paint doesn't leak, then store the can upside down. The paint creates a seal and stays fresh till you need it.

  3. Use up all your paint on touch-up jobs and smaller projects.

  4. Recycle the empty paint can.

  5. Donate paint to community groups, theater groups, schools, churches and others who need or want it. It could even earn you a tax deduction. Participate in or organize a paint swap in your community.

  6. As a last resort, dispose of paint properly. Let leftover latex paint air dry away from children and pets, then discard with normal trash. Save leftover liquid, solvent-based paint for a special paint collection program or household hazardous waste program in your community.
