You Don't Have To Lose Your Cool To Stay Comfortable At Home
There are ways you can keep your cool or heat things up at home and maybe save some cold cash at the same time.
Homeowners may want to consider these basic tips to help keep the inside of their homes comfortable and energy-efficient:
- Caulk, weatherstrip, and insulate windows and air conditioners to keep the cool air in during the summer or heat from escaping in the winter.
- Keep windows and doors closed when the air conditioning or heater is on.
- Pull drapes and shades over windows facing the sun to keep your home cool on warm days.
- Consider having a heat pump installed. Millions of heat pumps across America provide summer cooling and winter heating in homes, schools, stores, motels, and offices. They replace both the furnace and central air-conditioning equipment with a single heating-cooling system, according to the Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute.
During the summer, the heat pump operates as an electrically driven air conditioner that collects heat from your home and brings it outside. The process is reversed in the winter when the heat pump collects heat from outside air.
