In many professions there are designations which show colleagues, clients, employers and prospective employers that you have a high professional level of experience and competence.

A good example of one of these designations is "APR" which signifies that a person is Accredited in Public Relations. Eligible for the APR designation is any of the more than 17,000 members of the Public Relations Society of America with at least five years of experience in PR.
