by Jo Peddicord, nationally syndicated Beauty Beyond 50 columnist and author How hard is it to look like a winner after fifty? Easy if you know the answers to these questions. Q: I love eye shadow. Am I too old for it? A: Barbara Walters is 50+, so is Candice Bergen and Angela Lansbury. They wear it. So can you. Keep it subtle -- earth tones, shaded from dark along the lashes to light under the brows. Q: I don't like makeup. Why do you recommend it? A: As our skin gets paler and lashes and brows grow lighter/ thinner, the face gets the blahs. The easy-to-learn art of makeup helps transform a woman into the vital person she really is. Lovely colorings erase years and enliven the face. Q: I was embarrassed when my daughter's friend asked if I was her grandmother! Should I color my grey hair? A: YES! Go to a good colorist or do it yourself. Don't be afraid to look nifty after 50! It's fun-and healthy! Q: What are the most effective fashion fixes? A: Wear light or bright colors around the face. Dark ones show up lines and wrinkles. Body-fitting shoulder pads square the torso and "narrow" waist and hips. Avoid clinging fabrics and styles. Let clothing be colorful, comfortable and fun-to-wear-nothing dowdy. Chic is for us, too. For hundreds more tips, read Peddicord's award-winning book, Look Like
