Speed Up Your Laundry Chores
Everything goes faster and better when it is organized -- and doing the laundry is no exception. Here's some advice from Whirlpool home economists that can help you organize your laundry area to make doing the laundry easier and faster.
- To cut down on steps, locate the laundry area as close as possible to the source of laundry -- primarily the bath and bedrooms or off the kitchen, where you spend most of your time. Being close allows you to hear the cycles and switch clothes from the washer to the dryer without running up and down stairs.
- Set up a pre-sorted clothes hamper -- when clothing is sorted as it accumulates and is put with other items that will be laundered in the same manner, you won't have to re-sort every time you want to wash a load of clothes. Family members can help by dropping their laundry into the appropriate containers.
- Work out your best schedule for doing the laundry. Does your lifestyle dictate that you do the entire laundry non-stop while you're involved in another project around the house? Or, does it make better sense for you to do a washload whenever one has accumulated?
- If clothes need to be transported, save yourself the burden of carrying the laundry by using a rolling cart or basket.
- If the laundry room is located on a lower level of your home, consider a clothes chute to eliminate carrying baskets of soiled clothing down the stairs.
