Tire Tread Patterns Have A Story To Tell Motorists

Before going for a drive, it's a good idea to take a walk around your car. That's the suggestion of Richard Petty, the NASCAR race car champion. Petty, nine times voted "Most Popular Driver," recommends that all motorists take a few moments to check tire treadwear patterns, before sliding behind the wheel.

If the tire treads appear to be worn more on the inside or outside edge, a need for a wheel alignment is indicated, he advises. Uneven tire wear at two or more spots indicates a need for tire balancing.

Tire wear patterns can also indicate improper tire inflation or the need of repair or replacement of the vehicle's suspension system, he explained.

Petty serves as spokesman for the Money Express Credit Card Program which enables motorists to pay for major automotive services and merchandise over time without being penalized with service charges and interest. A minimum monthly payment must be made, and the balance must be paid in full when due, usually after 90 days.

He reports that Money Express is available throughout the country from more than 2,800 tire and auto service locations affiliated with the National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association. It is a credit service of Bank One N.A. of Dayton, Ohio.

For the name and address of the nearest available tire and auto service dealership offering Money Express, motorists may call toll-free 1-800-333-1071. (NAPSI)
