Summer Time Tips For Beauty

Whatever your plans are for the summer, looking your best is always on your schedule! Beth Barrick-Hickey, Sally Beauty Supply beauty expert and national spokesperson, offers these summer time tips for making this season your beautiful best.

Q. I am headed to the beach for a summer getaway and plan to swim in the ocean. How does salt water damage my hair, and what should I do to get it out of my hair?

A. When salt water dries on the hair it creates a high-saline solution which can cause mineral deposits to build up, resulting in hair that is weighted down and cannot grow. Hair should be washed or rinsed as soon as you get out of the water. Salon Care Ultra Moisturizing Anti-Chlorine Shampoo can remove salt water from hair.

Q. I will be out of the country on vacation for several months this summer and will not be able to have my hair colored. What can I pack that will get me through the "tell tale" gray stage during my trip?

A. Tuck a temporary rinse or color crayon in your bag. Good ones to try are Fanicful Rinse, Wella's First Color Rinse or Tween Time crayons.

Q. Although I wear red nail polish most of the year, I prefer a more fresh, natural look for summer. What is the best way to get a French Manicure at home?

A. Try American's Manicure French Natural Kit that contains a guide, two shades of polish, basecoat and topcoat for a clean, natural look this summer season.

Q. I am planning a weekend trip with friends to the beach this summer and need to get rid of the calluses and thickened skin on my heels before I hit the sand. How can I take care of this unsightly problem?

A. Treat yourself to a regular pedicure. Use a sloughing lotion or special foot file to remove dry skin and calluses. Using these regularly will begin to eliminate those calluses. Also, using a pumice stone can greatly reduce unsightly calluses and dry patches. Try Gena's "Perfect Feet Pedicure" System and Winning Nails Fancy Foot Pedicure File.

Q. I know when summer time hits, so do the frizzies! I want to control my frizzy, fly-away hair this summer. What can I use?

A. Frizzy hair is often caused by dryness. Use a light moisturizer after every shampoo. Try Ion Anti-Frizz Leave In Conditioner, Keragenics Rejuvenating Treatment or Apple Pectin Scentsates Conditioner to control the frizzies and keep hair looking its best this summer!

Q. I have a waxing appointment the morning before I leave for a trip to Hawaii. How long do I have to wait after waxing before going out in the sun?

A. Twenty-four hours is recommended unless you use sunscreen before going out into the sun after a waxing session.
